Anecdotes of Heraldry

Baird Coat of Arms Family Crest

Baird: This coat of arms refers to the assistance rendered by an ancestor of the family to William the Lion, during a hunting excursion in the south-western counties. The king became separated from his attendants and waws attacked by a huge wild boar. He called for assistance and was attended to by a man named Baird who had the good fortune to slay the boar. For this he received a grant of land and the coat of arms above described as "gules a boar or."
